Japanese Film Screening with an Introduction by Masaki Hatomi

Thursday, March 26 · 8:00 pm
Casa Anchieta, La Laguna

Free admission until full capacity is reached.

Mundo Japón presents a special Japanese film screening at Casa Anchieta, introduced by cultural commentator Masaki Hatomi. Before the film, Hatomi will give a short talk to provide context and share key insights into Japanese cinema—its visual language, recurring themes and cultural nuances—enhancing the viewing experience.

This session will feature “Wolf Children (Ōkami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki)”, the acclaimed animated film directed by Mamoru Hosoda. The story follows Hana, a young woman who falls in love with a man hiding an extraordinary secret: he is the last werewolf. After his sudden passing, Hana must raise their two children, Ame and Yuki, who inherit a dual nature—both human and wolf. Moving from the city to the countryside, the film portrays motherhood, growing up, and the search for identity with warmth, tenderness, and emotional depth.

The screening will be in Japanese with Spanish subtitles (VOSE).

An invitation to enjoy cinema through a different lens—ideal for Japan enthusiasts and for anyone discovering it for the first time, in a friendly, engaging format designed for general audiences.

This screening is presented in collaboration with the Japan Foundation (Madrid).
